Human tissue and biostorage
As one of the world’s first organisations focussed on human tissue-based research, Pharmagene has a 30-year heritage in the ethical sourcing, management, storage and use of high-quality human biospecimens taken with informed consent for research.
We have played an active role, alongside leading representatives from the biopharmaceutical research community, in shaping the scope of the UK Human Tissue Act and contributing to the development of its Codes of Practice. Demonstrating our long-standing commitment to regulatory excellence, we have held a Human Tissue Authority (HTA) licence continuously since 2007.

UK tissue bank
Our in-house research tissue bank comprises over 80,000 fixed and frozen, ethically sourced, high-quality human tissue samples obtained with informed consent for commercial research.
The tissue bank is meticulously curated by our scientific team and spans a range of disease indications, including respiratory, autoimmune, fibrotic, cardiovascular, CNS, and metabolic disorders. It also includes true normal tissues from a wide range of organ systems and individual donors.
These samples support our preclinical research services, particularly target and biomarker discovery projects, and are an essential resource for controls in novel assay development.
All research samples are managed within our proprietary database.
